From challenges to solutions: perfecting augmented reality property scanning with Vuabl
Finance
About this project
We collaborated with Vuabl to enhance their app's functionality and improve user experience. By upgrading the RoomPlan SDK and introducing multistage scanning, we resolved issues with inaccurate scans and streamlined the process for larger spaces. Additionally, we fixed property area calculations and added features like furniture hiding and room name editing, delivering a more intuitive app ready for MVP launch.

The challenges
App development support
Vuabl was in the process of developing an app but needed additional expertise to complete the project. The focus was on making final enhancements and adjustments to ensure the app would be a polished and market-ready Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
RoomPlan integration
One of the major challenges involved incorporating iOS RoomPlan, a feature that allows users to scan properties using an iPhone camera to create 2D floor plans and 3D models. While RoomPlan worked well for smaller areas, scaling it to larger spaces proved problematic.
Scanning accuracy issues
When users scanned larger properties, the scans frequently resulted in misaligned or slanted walls. This led to users having to rescan entire areas, which significantly slowed down the process and made it inefficient.
Need for improvement
Vuabl needed a partner to refine the RoomPlan functionality, improve scanning accuracy, and ensure a smoother, more efficient workflow for users.
The solution
Key improvements
To tackle the challenges Vuabl faced, we implemented several critical enhancements to the app’s functionality. A major focus was upgrading the app to the latest RoomPlan SDK, which significantly boosted the accuracy of property scanning.
Multistage scanning
We introduced a multistage scanning process, allowing users to scan each room individually. The app then seamlessly stitched these scans together to create a comprehensive 2D floor plan and 3D model. This innovation effectively resolved the issues users encountered with larger spaces, such as slanted walls and the need for repeated rescans, making the app more reliable and efficient for its intended purpose.
Property area calculation fixes
In addition to improving the scanning functionality, we corrected the existing property area calculation feature, which had been yielding inaccurate measurements. This update ensured users received precise dimensions for their scanned spaces.
Enhanced user experience
We also introduced new features, such as the ability to hide furniture within scans for a cleaner visual presentation and in-place room name editing, allowing users to easily rename rooms directly within the scan interface.
